The training of the piaffe is not always as straight forward you may think… from a very collected walk, we teach the horse to do the school walk (walk in diagonal pairs) and then form there, and through time we add more energy and slowly, but surely, a good piaffe will come out from it. The key: is not to be in a rush, it can take years before your horse has developed the right muscles and the right calmness in its head to be able to perform and effortless and relaxed piaffe.
Here from the halt, I am asking Bambino to do a couple of steps… then immediately forward. Its very exciting when you start, but don’t be greedy asking for too many too soon.
I hope you enjoy the pics.
